I’m new to golf or returning after a break - is Fortwilliam suitable?
Absolutely. Fortwilliam is a welcoming and inclusive club, and the Ladies section is particularly supportive of women who are new to golf or returning after time away. There are plenty of opportunities to ease yourself into playing, meet other members, and get involved at your own pace.
Are there regular Ladies competitions?
Yes. The Ladies section runs a full and varied programme of competitions throughout the season, including both 9-hole on a Sunday/Monday and 18-hole Thursday/Friday. These are designed to suit different schedules and playing preferences, with flexibility built in to make participation as easy as possible.
Are competitions suitable for different abilities?
Very much so. Competitions are structured to be enjoyable and inclusive, and many are ideal for golfers who are still developing their game. To help with pace of play and enjoyment, competitions are typically played in groups of two or three, with fourballs used on occasion.
Can I play socially as well as competitively?
Yes. Many Ladies members enjoy a mix of social golf and competitive play. In addition to regular competitions, there are mixed and social formats. The “Playing Ladies” WhatsApp group is a great way to find playing partners and get involved, especially if you’re new to the club.
Do Ladies take part in inter-club matches?
Yes. Fortwilliam competes in a number of inter-club competitions organised by Golf Ireland. These team events are a great way to represent the club, meet other members, and enjoy competitive golf in a supportive environment. Details are shared ahead of each season, and anyone interested is encouraged to get involved.
Is there golf for Ladies during the winter?
Yes. The Ladies section runs winter leagues and teams from October through to the end of February. These are designed to keep members playing over the winter months and are very popular with both new and existing members. The usual format is a relaxed 9 holes followed by coffee and chat - a great way to stay connected and enjoy the social side of the club.
What support is available once I join?
New members are well supported and guided as they settle into the club. If you have any questions about competitions, handicaps or Ladies golf generally, there are dedicated contacts within the Ladies section who are happy to help.
